Top 10 Upper Human Body Pressure Points For Self Defense

,
Top 10 Upper Human Body Pressure Points For Self Defense
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

In any fight situation, (street fights, karate fights, etc.) possible body weapons include short jabs and strikes with elbows, knees, and hands. The key to winning any confrontation or street fight is to be aggressive and concentrate your attack on the opponent's vital points in order to end the fight as soon as possible. A knowledge of human body pressure points can be your key to survival.

Top 10 Upper Human Body Pressure Points For Self Defense

One way to accomplish this is to focus on your opponent's most vital areas, or pressure points. A body is separated into three main sections: high, middle and low. Each of these sections contains vital targets. The effects of striking these targets could be brutal. In this article, let's take a look at the pressure point of the High Section. This section includes the head and neck and is the most dangerous target area. Areas for attack might include:

(1) Top of the head. The skull is weakest where the front cranial bones join, right between the eyes. A powerful strike could cause trauma to the cranial cavity, possibly resulting in unconsciousness and hemorrhage.

(2) Temple. The bones of the skull are weak at the temple and an artery and large nerve lie close to the skin. A strike here could cause unconsciousness or concussion.

(3) Eyes. A slight poke in the eyes causes uncontrollable watering and blurred sight. A forceful jab could cause brief blindness or the eyes could be gouged out. Death could result if the fingers penetrate through the thin bone behind the eyes and into the brain.

(4) Nose. Any blow here could easily break the thin bones of the nose, causing extreme pain and eye watering.

(5) Under the nose. A blow to the nerve center, which is close to the surface under the nose, could cause great pain and watery eyes.

(6) Jaw. A blow to the jaw could break or dislocate it. If the facial nerve is pinched against the lower jaw, one side of the face may be paralyzed.

(7) Chin. A blow to the chin could cause paralysis, mild concussion or unconsciousness. The jawbone acts as a lever that could transmit the force of a blow to the back of the brain where the cardiac and respiratory mechanisms are controlled.

(8) Back of the ears and base of the skull. A moderate blow to the back of the ears or the base of the skull could cause unconsciousness by the jarring effect on the back of the brain. However, a powerful blow could cause a concussion or brain hemorrhage and death.

(9) Throat. A powerful blow to the front of the throat could cause death by crushing the windpipe. A forceful blow causes extreme pain and gagging or vomiting.

(10) Side of neck. A sharp blow to the side of the neck causes unconsciousness by shock to the carotid artery, jugular vein, and vagus nerve. For maximum effect, the blow should be focused below and slightly in front of the ear. A less powerful blow causes involuntary muscle spasms and intense pain. The side of the neck is one of the best targets to use to drop an opponent immediately or to disable him temporarily to finish him later.

Effective striking with the weapons of the body to the opponent's vital points is essential for a victorious outcome in a hand-to-hand struggle.

Botox Improves Appearances And Lives

,
Botox Improves Appearances And Lives
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Botox, once scoffed at for being another product for the vain, has emerged as a valuable tool to help ease a variety of ailments. It still remains most popular as a wrinkle smoother, but in recent years there have been many incredible developments, resulting in a wider use of the product to help people who suffer from such problems as excessive sweating, muscle twitches, and even incontinence. Here are some of the current ways this treatment is being used to help people not only improve their appearances, but in many ways make their overall lives much better.

Botox Improves Appearances And Lives

Erase Lines

The number one reason why patients seek botox? They want to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles that age their face. It isn't always about turning back the clock a decade either. Some people have found that poor skincare in their youth, too many days in the tanning bed, or smoking and other bad habits have led to premature ageing. That means they look many years older than they actually are and feel. This can help smooth these out and make you resemble your actual age. When you look your best and freshest, it will shine through in your daily life and your confidence will increase.

Stop Sweat

Yes, botox can actually help ease excessive sweating problems. How? It is injected into the sweat glands of the target area (commonly the underarms, soles of the feet, or palms) blocking them from producing perspiration. This can dramatically change the quality of life for people suffering from this condition. You can wear what you like and not have to worry about embarrassing interactions with people.

Stop Twitches

Have an annoying muscle spasm? Tired of people asking you why you are winking? Twitches can be difficult if not impossible to control and can cause great emotional distress as well as uncomfortable social situations. Botox can help relax the muscles that are causing these ticks so you'll no longer have to suffer through the embarrassment. In many cases, these involuntary muscle movements are also the cause of migraines, neck, and shoulder pains. By stopping the twitching, you'll find relief from these other associated problems as well.

Bladder Control

It may sound odd, but Botox can successfully treat a number of bladder problems. Incontinence or weakened bladder muscles can cause unwanted accidents and make controlling urination a daily battle. There are many people who have to suffer from this condition and it can have a hugely negative impact on their quality of life as well as their emotional wellbeing. This substance can be injected into the bladder muscles and help to relax them. These in turn allows for greater control over the bladder, which means less sudden needs for urination and a greater ability to hold liquid in when required.

Research and experiments may lead to even more uses of this wonder injectable. It still remains a low-risk drug and techniques to administer have greatly improved over the years. This treatment will likely continually surprise the public with its many uses.

Facing the Trauma of Uterine Fibroids

,
Facing the Trauma of Uterine Fibroids
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Uterine fibroids are tumours which grow from cells forming the muscle of the uterus. They are also called leiomyoma, myoma, fibromyoma, leiofibromyoma or fibroleiomyoma of the uterus and they can grow on the uterine wall and push out into the bladder, bowel or intestine or can grow within the uterine wall, or even project from the wall of the uterus on a narrow stalk into the uterine cavity. They can be as small as a pea and may go unnoticed but they can cause problems if they grow big.

Facing the Trauma of Uterine Fibroids

Some of the symptoms of fibroids can be following:

• Cramps
They are considered to be foreign bodies by the uterus which needs to be expelled. The resulting pressure on the uterine fibroid can cause strong spasms i.e. sudden involuntary muscular contractions.

• Constipation and Pelvic Pain
Normal bowel movements can be hampered when the fibroids press on the colon, causing pain during digestion. They also compress other organs inducing pressure which can be experienced in the form of sharp pains.

• Heavy Menstruation and Vaginal Bleeding
There can be abnormal bleeding. Some women may experience bleeding after a long time of going through menopause which indicates fibroid development.

• Urinary Infections
Fibroids can cause urinary tract infections which may lead to frequent urination or difficulty in urination.

• Abdominal Swelling and Back Pain
A bulging belly that feels hard on touching is a common symptom. Many women with fibroids can appear to be pregnant due to the swelling. In some cases, women with fibroids experience pain in the back or legs.

Besides all these symptoms, they also disturb conception. When it blocks the fallopian tube, fertilization cannot take place. When it grows near the uterine lining, implantation of the fertilized egg can be disrupted, thus causing miscarriages and sometimes women with extremely large growth may not be able to conceive simply because of the size of the fibroid.

These are quite common among women and may a times. A woman is not aware that she is having them. In such cases, they do not cause any symptoms or problems, and they remain unnoticed. Their existence can be hereditary. Conception and intake of oral contraceptives both decrease the likelihood that they will develop. They have not been observed in girls who have not reached puberty and adolescent girls rarely develop them. Some other factors that have been associated with an increased risk of developing fibroids are having the first menstrual period (menarche) before the age of 10, consumption of alcohol (particularly beer), uterine infections and high blood pressure (hypertension).

The Many Uses of Botox

,
The Many Uses of Botox
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

When people think of Botox, they usually associate it only with its cosmetic functions. While it is certainly an excellent cosmetic product, its uses are not limited simply to cosmetic ends. There are actually a number of non-cosmetic uses for which it is utilized as well.

The Many Uses of Botox

How it Works

Botox is chemical that serves to limit muscle function. In most cases, it is injected under the skin in a localized area, and, as it begins to soak into the tissue, it temporarily deadens the muscle in the area surrounding the injection site. While this may sound like a negative effect, it actually serves several desirable purposes. In many cases, too much muscle activity can actually cause problems for the individual, and injections like this can be very effective in neutralizing these problems.

Cosmetic Uses

Most often, Botox is used for cosmetic purposes. In these cases, a doctor injects the chemical in strategic places under the skin in the face. The reason for this is that by diminishing muscle activity in the face the skin - which is attached to the facial muscles - becomes looser, and this serves to soften the appearance of wrinkles. This is an effective way of reducing the appearance of wrinkles and is less invasive than other means of doing the same thing. People receiving injections for this purpose will often have them done every three to four months or as often as is recommended by a doctor.

Non-Cosmetic Uses

Aside from its cosmetic benefits, Botox is also effective at treating several muscle related conditions that are not cosmetic. The most common of these non-cosmetic conditions is a twitch or some similar involuntary muscle activity. Most often it is used to treat these involuntary muscle movements when they occur in the face since larger muscles would require more of the chemical which is safest when used in small amounts. Since it serves to diminish the ability of the muscle to contract, an injection in an area that is affected by a twitch will serve to greatly decrease the twitching that is taking place. Thus, it is an incredibly effective means of managing involuntary muscle spasms like these.

In all, Botox is an incredibly efficient chemical. It can be used to treat a variety of both cosmetic and non-cosmetic conditions. If you think you might be a good candidate to receive injections, then talk to your doctor about a possible course of treatment.

If you'd like to change your look with Botox Atlanta  has a group of experienced surgeons who can help. Contact their offices for an appointment:  http://www.swancenteratlanta.com.

The Yips and Other Words That May Not Be Spoken on the Golf Course

,
The Yips and Other Words That May Not Be Spoken on the Golf Course
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

In some ancient cultures it was forbidden to speak aloud the name of a deity or a devil out of concern that merely speaking the name could conjure up the spirit who would then wreak havoc on the affairs of men. In our modern post-enlightenment world such behavior is treated as silly superstition although it still begs the question of why did such practices persist for thousands of years if there were never any bad consequences?

The Yips and Other Words That May Not Be Spoken on the Golf Course

In my regular foursome we respect the wisdom of the ancient elders and it is forbidden to ever speak aloud the word "sha_k" out of fear that dark demonic forces will appear and start bouncing your golf ball off the hosel of your clubs. I cannot be held responsible for the fate of any golfer who is foolish enough to challenge this hypothesis.

An almost equally feared word which I do dare here to speak is Yips. Golfers over 50 years old will remember the golf superstar of the mid to late seventies whose iron play was so precise that he used to get the yardage from his caddie in half-yard increments. For reasons unknown to mortal man however his putting game almost completely disappeared. Amazingly, and probably because his iron play was so good he was still able to win major tournaments while sometimes putting with his eyes closed,

Was that a case of the Yips? We do not know. Everybody yanks a short putt from time to time.

What we do know about the Yips is that it is a real muscular condition that occurs in about 1 in every 1,000 people from time to time. The condition is actually better-known as musicians dystonia, which is an involuntary muscle contraction or muscle spasm that occurs most often in musicians who have practiced complicated finger movements for years. These spasms are almost always painless and usually imperceptible.

If you are a golfer and you think that you may have the Yips do not, I repeat do not, start reading the medical literature about musicians dystonia because it will scare the bejeesus out of you. You will start seeing terms like basal ganglia, motor cortical activity, diffusion sensor imaging, and sensorimotor cortex and see something overwhelming you as sinister as the creature of the black lagoon.

What you think about as the Yips may be the result of spending too much time over-thinking a very simple process, moving a golf club head a few inches to hit a stationary round ball. Scratch golfers prevent the demons from controlling their golf clubs by first not speaking their names and by establishing a pre-shot routine that has you striking the ball in less than eight seconds from start to finish.

End Depression and Anxiety by Feeding the Brain

,
End Depression and Anxiety by Feeding the Brain
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

The natural chemistry of the brain involves chemical messengers that work with the electrical communications between the billions of nerve cells in the brain. Called neurotransmitters, these natural chemicals bridge the gap between one brain cell to the next. They regulate our body's automatic functions, including blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate, sensations including touch, pain and pleasure, and the control of body movements. They also play a major part in our moods and behavior. If our neurotransmitters are not present in adequate and balanced amounts, the electrical messages of the brain do not occur and bodily functions and moods suffer.

End Depression and Anxiety by Feeding the Brain

Regarding our moods and behavior, if our neurotransmitters are present and balanced in adequate amounts, they promote happiness, serenity, confidence, clear and constructive thinking, good memory and freedom from worry. If they are deficient and unbalanced, negative thinking and emotions run us, resulting in irritability, nervousness, lack of energy, fatigue, anger, fear, inability to relax or sleep, mood swings, difficulty learning, poor judgement, slowed reactions, lack of sex drive, inability to enjoy life, anxiety and depression.

The neurotransmitters of the brain include norepinephrine, serotonin, gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and dopamine. Each one is involved with certain brain communications, but they all work together as a balanced team for proper mental function. When the brain is able to make these neurotransmitters in good supply, they are all balanced and the brain functions like a championship team.

To make these natural nerve chemicals, the brain needs the right kinds and amounts of nutritional raw materials fed to it. Without these raw materials, one or more of these neurotransmitter chemicals becomes deficient and there is then an imbalance and the team falls apart. When the brain's chemical team doesn't function well, it leads to those negative feelings and emotions that have been given a variety of labels, including depression, anxiety, panic disorders, phobias, mania and bipolar disorder, depending on which neurotransmitters are deficient or unbalanced.

These imbalances have been "treated" for centuries with a variety of methods by practitioners who didn't understand the underlying chemical cause. Many of these methods were cruel and inhumane, such as beatings and torture, isolation, electric shock, chemical numbing, and surgical removal of parts of the brain. Some of these methods still continue today in the practice of psychiatry. This marks a poor track record on the legacy of psychiatry to help those who suffer from disorders of mood and thought.

In the 20th century, we saw the introduction of chemical treatments for mood disorders in the form of antidepressants such as Prozac, antianxiety drugs such as Valium and antipsychotic drugs such as Thorazine. The makers of these drugs had the ambition that the brain's neurotransmitters could be manipulated and controlled with manmade chemicals. The root cause of the neurotransmitter imbalances was overlooked, or ignored.

These drugs are not cures because they do not correct the underlying problem of not supplying the brain with the natural raw materials to make neurotransmitters. Not only are these drugs not cures, but they cause many dangerous side effects, including suicidal tendencies, involuntary muscle spasms, senility due to brain damage, headaches, sleeplessness, drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, loss of sex drive, impotence, tremors, dry mouth, weight gain, abnormal heart beat, low blood sugar, low thyroid function, irritable bowel and more, depression and anxiety. Yes, you read right, they can actually cause depression and anxiety.

Research shows that these medications are no more effective for helping depression and anxiety than sugar pills and can actually increase the rate of suicide and violence in school age patients. Is it any wonder that many of the suicides and acts of violence carried out in our schools were done by students taking these drugs? We're not talking about recreational drugs such as cocaine, crack, marijuana, ecstasy, alcohol or methamphetamine. We're talking about medications that were prescribed by doctors who haven't addressed the real causes of these neurotransmitter imbalances.

There are other medications that can also interfere with neurotransmittes, including blood pressure drugs such as atenolol (Tenormin), propranolol (Inderal), nadolol (Corgard), diuretics (fluid pills), gabapentin (Neurontin), prednisone, birth control pills, artificial female hormones, muscle relaxers and chemotherapy drugs.

Fortunately, there are alternative answers to dangerous medications used for depression and anxiety. The alternative requires identification of the deficient neurotransmitters and a knowledge of the right nutritional supplements to supply the brain with the right natural raw materials to balance them.

Dr. Tim Holcomb is a pharmacist-doctor with over 30 years of experience in natural health care. His website http://www.enddepression-anxiety.com features a free report about ending depression and anxiety with natural alternatives to dangerous prescription drugs. The report features a simple brain function questionnaire that helps identify which neurotransmitters are likely to need nutritional support and which nutritional supplements can be used to balance them.

Dr. Holcomb has a convenient online natural health store at http://www.drholcombsnaturalhealth.com which features the products recommended by the brain function questionnaire and offers a free health newsletter, Health Matters, for you to stay updated on natural health and nutrition.

Sleep Enuresis: Causes and Treatments

,
Sleep Enuresis: Causes and Treatments
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Sleep Enuresis, more commonly known as Bedwetting, refers to the lack of ability to maintain urinary control during sleep. This recurrent involuntary urination is also called Nocturnal Enuresis, which is characterized by at least two occurrences per month in 3 to 6 years old infants and at least one occurrence per month for older children.

Sleep Enuresis: Causes and Treatments

Though it is considered normal for children below 7 years old to have enuretic episodes, 5% of 10 year old and 3% of 12 year old children, and as many as 1-3% of 18-year-old teenagers may continue to experience this disorder.

Primary and Secondary Enuresis:

Primary Enuresis is involuntary urination that occurs from infancy with at least two episodes a week, and comprised of 70-90% of all cases. Secondary Enuresis, on the other hand, refers to a relapse after experiencing an extended period of dryness. Adults are more likely to suffer from the secondary type.

Causes of Sleep Enuresis:

Sleep Enuresis can be caused by many factors including hormonal, dietary, or emotional factors.

One of the most common causes of Sleep Enuresis is the inability to develop the antidiuretic hormone cycle in some people. In this cycle, which is typically developed by individuals by the age of 2 to 6, the pituitary gland releases a hormone at night that promotes water retention in the kidneys, thereby reducing urine output till sunrise. Failure to develop this hormone cycle naturally leads to Sleep Enuresis.

An overactive bladder can also cause Sleep Enuresis in many children. By nature, muscle spasms occur in the bladder during urine retention and removal. When these spasms become too active or uncontrollable, the bladder is incapable of holding the normal amount of urine, which eventually results in accidental urination during sleep.

Another common hereditary factor is failure to develop an awareness that enables a person to awaken before urinating on bed. This awareness is normally developed by children during the natural process of learning how to control the bladder while awake.

Besides these common causes, medical disorders such as diabetes, urinary tract infection, sleep apnea or epilepsy and psychiatric disorders may also cause individuals to develop Sleep Enuresis.

Treatments:

Simple behavior modifications can be very effective treatments for children with enuretic episodes. For example, intake of liquids and dietary bladder irritants such as citrus products should be discouraged before bedtime. Taking note of when the enuresis actually occurs, and waking and taking the child to toilet before that hour, can also be very helpful.

Psychological treatments such as encouragement of self-reliance, participation in management, inculcation of self-respect and responsibility are also recommended by many experts. Physical punishments and coercion, on the other hand, are considered to be the most counterproductive measures and should be avoided at all costs.

Using devices such as bedwetting alarms and moisture alarms, combined with bladder muscle exercises, dietary changes, retention control training etc can also be helpful remedies in treating Sleep Enuresis.

For some of the more severe cases that cannot be treated by behavior modification, alarm devices and other treatment methods, using medications such as Desmopressin, a synthetic substitute for the missing antidiuretic hormone discussed earlier, is found to be very effective. Desmopressins such as DDAVP, Stimate, and Minrin can easily be administered nasally or intravenously.

Resveratrol For Anti Aging Or Cosmetic Procedure?

,
Resveratrol For Anti Aging Or Cosmetic Procedure?
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

If you had your choice of the super antioxidant, resveratrol, or an injectable cosmetic procedure to combat anti aging, which would you choose? Tough question? Let's examine the latest injectable cosmetic procedure and then we'll take a look at resveratrol.

Resveratrol For Anti Aging Or Cosmetic Procedure?

Dysport is a protein extracted from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is the first FDA approved competition for Botox as a way of removing facial lines without surgery.

Botox, manufactured by Allergan, was introduced in 2002 and grew into a huge business as the number one cosmetic procedure in the U.S. The French drug maker, Ipsen, is hoping to attract some of that business away from Botox.

This newest wrinkle defeater was first used for the treatment of motor disorders and a variety of involuntary muscular spasms, including cerebral palsy. Further development led to treatment of various neuromuscular disorders. It has been used safely in Europe for years but was not approved by the FDA for release in the U.S. until July, 2009.

The procedure to erase facial wrinkles is quite simple. Minute amounts of the new botulinum toxin are injected into the facial muscles under frown lines. The procedure lasts about 10 to 20 minutes and no local anaesthetic is required. The muscles slowly relax over the next few days after treatment. The frown muscles will then not be able to contract.

It has not been proven if either one of the two injectable procedures is superior to the other. In clinical trials the same type of positive results were reported for both treatments as well as similar occasional unwanted side effects. The side effects include headaches and bruising at the injection site. Also, misplaced injections can cause drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid. The procedure should not be used if a person is pregnant, breastfeeding or has a neuromuscular disease.

Dysport is a prescription drug and should only be administered by medical professionals. It is also not interchangeable with Botox.

Okay, now what does resveratrol have to offer?

As a super antioxidant it has become the hottest topic in anti aging. In fact, it is so popular that a small start up company, Sirtris, was purchased for almost 0M by one of the large pharmaceutical companies because they were so impressed with test results on studies run by Sirtris.

This antioxidant is produced by plants as a reaction to environmental stress such a fungal infection and insect attacks. Researchers believe it acts much the same way in other life forms.

SIRT1 is a very important protein that regulates heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) and keeps it active. When HSF1 is more active then more cells are protected against an accumulation of damage. When we start to age our Sirt1 levels decrease and our cells can't respond to stress or other outside factors as well as they once did. Now research is pointing to the theory that resveratrol can activate the SIRT1 protein!

We already know it can lower blood sugar levels, bolster the immune system, fight inflammation and protect against heart and blood vessel disease. Most recently, researchers say it could be used to treat major illnesses such a sepsis, appendicitis and peritonitis.

It truly is loaded with health benefits and is so readily available. It's most abundant source is red wine and grapes but can also be found in other food sources such as peanuts and Japanese knotwood. In addition, for convenience, resveratrol may be obtained as a supplement. As with any other supplement, your physician should be consulted first.

Why Stretching Makes You Comfortable

,
Why Stretching Makes You Comfortable
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

If a person has no time to go for a massage then one can always stretch making the back pop and rattle. Stretching is not only for the elderly or athletes, cats and dogs also love to stretch. While we like to stretch, we love to shake hands. It is a gesture of friendship and acceptance. Hands shake for a number of reasons and not all of them have anything to do with looking for friends and vice versa.

Why Stretching Makes You Comfortable

There are various reasons why stretching makes one feel good. The extent to which one stretches is a matter of endurance. It gives a good feeling because it increases blood flow and the heart and lungs can work well. The reasons why hands shake can be because of involuntary movements caused by nerves, too much caffeine, medicine related side effects, food preservatives and artificial flavoring, anxiety, hunger and metacarpal spasms.

Not only the muscles and ligaments are straightened out while stretching but the blood vessels are also stretched. This is the reason why stretching results in easy blood circulation. Stretching tenses the muscles and they free up the squeezed blood and it goes off to the lungs and heart. They oxygenate the blood that makes one breathe better. The heart works doubly well when a person spread arms and stretch, this opens the chest cavity. The blood flow in the body gets regulated up to the brain. An expanded chest pumps the heart and lungs more freely resulting in a more oxygenated blood getting into the bloodstream.

The shaking of hands that is affected with central nervous system disorder is an involuntary movement and is commonly called tremor. This is mostly observed in elderly people as they cannot control many parts of their body from moving. Besides this, people with liver failure also can't stop their hands from shaking.

There are many other benefits of stretching; no one can deny that the over-all mood change affects the body and muscle stretching. When one is in a happy mood, wonders will be done and the world appears like heaven. In this mental state, any kind of disease related to body or mind is not even a remote possibility. Other than that, stretching helps in relaxation of tense and tired muscles, it balances the body coordination and helps to avoid muscle injury.

Not every form of hand shaking appears distracting to the eyes. But if one is in a fit, things that are supposed to be done cannot be done. At least what one can do is watch what is being put in the mouth. Lastly, hands are part of the body and they should be loved.

Also learn why does stretching feel good and why does my hand shake.

The Chemical Miracle

,
The Chemical Miracle
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Within the last few years, the usage of Botox has increased dramatically. There is no doubt that this sudden increase in popularity is due to the constant advertising in the media by different celebrities and well-known artists. Since what we see in television is that Botox is being used as a treatment for wrinkles we might be fooled as to think that that is its only benefit. But that is far from the truth since this drug can treat different conditions that are not dealing directly with aesthetics.

The Chemical Miracle

As it was mentioned before, one of the most popular uses of Botox is that of removing wrinkles. When the toxin botulinum type is injected into a specific target area of the body, it stops the release of a chemical (acetylcholine) that normally allows for the contraction of muscles under the skin. When the release of this specific chemical is hindered, the muscle is unable to contract again, leaving the skin nice and smooth. The main target areas usually are wrinkles caused by normal facial expressions such as the frown lines and crow's feet around the eyes.

This drug is also used for the treatment of some eye conditions like blepharospasm, which is an abnormal twitch of the eye, and strabismus, which is commonly referred as lazy eye. In the case of blepharospasm, involuntary muscle contractions are taking place and since Botox does not allow the release of the chemical acetylcholine that allows muscle contraction, the twitching would stop and the condition can be temporarily cured. Other similar condition that can be treated like this is cervical dystonia, a condition in which neck muscles contract causing severe pain.

Treatment of some headaches can sometimes involve the use of Botox. The drug is usually injected in the neck and forehead areas and then it can relieve the pain. In some cases, migraines can be treated in the same manner but since not all migraines involve muscle spasms this is not an actual treatment for migraine.

Excessive sweating is another condition that can be treated with Botox injections. Normally, people's bodies regulate temperature by sweating, but for some people this is not the case. People with hyperhidrosis will sweat more than what they actually need to sweat, sometimes causing discomfort to the person because of the inconveniences that come with this. People with conditions like hyperhidrosis can benefit from the use of this drug since with an injection, the signal for sweating would be stopped and therefore the condition would be relieved.

Now we have seen that Botox can treat a variety of conditions that range from involuntary muscle twitches to conditions more closely related to aesthetics. The application of Botox is a simple procedure that does not require surgery unlike most of the other cosmetic procedures; it is so convenient that it can even be done at a doctor's office. This is why Botox is sometimes referred to as the "miracle poison" or pretty poison by some commentators. In my experience of 9 years injecting Botox I have been very impressed with this chemical miracle.

Ten Tips For Managing Your Overactive Bladder at Work
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

If you have an overactive bladder, you may live in fear of an accident while you're at work, or in a meeting. This is not an unreasonable fear, given the fact that up to 25 percent of adult women suffer from urge incontinence, an involuntary and unexpected urine leakage. Here are ten tips for keeping your weak bladder under control when you're at work.

Drink Plenty Of Fluids

Some women have the mistaken impression that if they cut way back on fluids, they won't have to go as much. This doesn't work, since the amount of urine present doesn't always have anything to do with the feeling of urinary urgency. Dehydrating yourself can also lead to urinary tract infections.
Scope Out The Restrooms

Ten Tips For Managing Your Overactive Bladder at Work

A little reconnoitering ahead of time can prevent frantic dashing about in search of a bathroom later on, especially in an unfamiliar location.

Leave Yourself An Out At Meetings

Sit near a door. Look for a seat in the back of the room. Be sure to sit at the end of the aisle so you can make a hasty exit, if necessary.

Stay On A Schedule

You can manage frequent urination by staying on top of your fluid intake, and your bathroom breaks. If you know you have a meeting at two, stop drinking anything after one. Visit the bathroom just before you go to the meeting.

Plan Ahead When Traveling

When making airline reservations, reserve an aisle seat that's close to the bathroom.

Make Friends With The Flight Attendants

Clue them in on your problem. Ask them to let you know ahead of time, if possible, when the seatbelt light is coming on. This way you can take a potty break before you have to be strapped into your seat.

Have to change planes fast? Ask the flight attendants or the gate agent to help you get to your next gate quickly, so you have time to dash into the restroom before boarding your connecting flight.

Avoid Foods And Drinks That Set Off An Overactive Bladder

Avoid anything that contains caffeine, including coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Spicy foods may be a trigger for some people. Orange juice and even chocolate may bring on a spasm, too. Know what your triggers are, and avoid them at work.

Do Those Kegel Exercises!

Kegels are an excellent way to tame a wayward urinary tract. They help to tone the pelvic floor muscles, which support all the organs in your abdomen. You can do them when you feel the urge to urinate coming on, too, which will give you a little extra time to get to the restroom.

Consider Wearing Protection Sometimes

If you know you have a big presentation coming up, or a busy day, you may want to think about wearing incontinence briefs, just for the day. Sometimes a little prevention goes a long way in avoiding an accident, especially when things are in flux.

Let Your Supervisor Know You Need More Frequent Restroom Breaks

You don't have to go into all the icky details. Just tell her that you have a bladder condition that requires you to take a potty break every two hours. It may be necessary to get a note from your doctor.

One Last Suggestion For Dealing With Urge Incontinence

Natural remedies, including pumpkin seed, and soy extract, can be a safe and effective way to solve the problem of leaking urine. You don't have to live with excessive urination. Take the first steps now to gain control over the situation.

Urinary Incontinence - It Really Isn't The End Of The World

,
Urinary Incontinence - It Really Isn't The End Of The World
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

If you are having episodes of involuntary passing of urine then you probably have a condition known as urinary incontinence.  This condition is more common in women but there are more and more men experiencing it as the male population ages.  Incontinence is not a disease but rather a symptom of some underlying condition that has to be identified and treated before the condition can be cured or managed.

Urinary Incontinence - It Really Isn't The End Of The World

For that reason, your first step in controlling the condition has to be a visit to your doctor's office.  He or she can diagnose which type or types of incontinence you have and recommend an appropriate treatment therapy.  Treatment runs the gamut of simple changes in diet and lifestyle, to exercise, to medication and in extreme cases, surgery.

Depending on the type of incontinence that you have, and there are three major types, your incontinence could be caused by external stress on the bladder, misfiring nerves sending incorrect signals to the bladder, or a bladder that simply has forgotten how to function properly.

Your bladder is essentially a smooth muscle with two tubes at the top and one emptying tube at the bottom.  If that muscle spasms and contracts uncontrollably, as in urge incontinence, then it will force urine through the bottom tube into the urethra and out of the body.  If the muscles are weakened as they are in stress incontinency the bladder becomes vulnerable to outside pressures like a sneeze or a laugh.  If the bladder simply can no longer fully empty itself, it's subject to overflow incontinence.

Regardless of the type of incontinency that you experience there are ways to control it.  Urinary incontinence does not mean the end of the world as you know it.  There are treatments and products that will allow you to continue your lifestyle with minimal interruption completely free from any embarrassing accidents.

Prescription Painkiller Abuse and Addiction

,
Prescription Painkiller Abuse and Addiction
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

It is mentioned in songs, TV shows, and movies. Celebrities use it, get addicted to it, and go to rehab to get off of it. Some 20 tons of it are reportedly produced each year. Hydrocodone is one of the most abused of all prescription drugs. In the 2006 Monitoring the Future study from the University of Michigan, one brand of this particular pain drug ranked second only to marijuana in the top five drugs used by 12th graders in the past year.

Prescription Painkiller Abuse and Addiction

Hydrocodone is a narcotic-type painkiller commonly prescribed for the short-term management of intense pain from injury or surgery. Hydrocodone is an opioid-meaning it acts on the body similar to the narcotic opium. It binds to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal chord, where it interrupts or alters the perception of pain.

Hydrocodone also increases the activity of the neurotransmitter, dopamine, producing a euphoria similar to that produced by other narcotics such as morphine or heroin. This is the primary reason for the prevalence of abuse.

Dependency and Withdrawal

Prolonged use of opioids can result in a physical tolerance, meaning higher doses are required to achieve the same effects. It also leads to physical dependency, wherein the body adapts to the drug and withdrawal symptoms occur if it is stopped. Drug detox in a rehab center is the safest route down at that point.

The symptoms of opioid painkiller withdrawal may include restlessness, fever, sweating, chills, goose bumps, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, involuntary leg movements, sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose, irritability, panic, depression, persistent headache, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Side Effects

Sometimes the opioid, hydrocodone is combined with another drug, acetaminophen, which is the active ingredient in Tylenol. The addition of acetaminophen acts to increase the analgesic effects and limit the intake of hydrocodone. At higher than prescribed doses, acetaminophen can cause unpleasant and often unsafe side effects including damage to the liver.

Common side effects of hydrocodone include dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, and constipation. Some less common side effects are allergic reaction, blood disorders, changes in mood, mental fogginess, anxiety, lethargy, difficulty urinating, spasm of the ureter, irregular or depressed respiration, and rash. Euphoria and drowsiness are the common side effects that have led to the medication's illicit use.

Overdose symptoms

With the uncontrolled use of euphoria-causing narcotics comes a high potential for overdose. The overdose victim may be lost in the euphoria of the drug and fail to notice the symptoms or seek help. Symptoms of a hydrocodone overdose may include slow breathing, cold and clammy skin, constricted pupils, tiredness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, sweating, weakness, confusion, loss of consciousness and coma. Overdose can be fatal.

As with any drug, it is important to be fully informed. Even when prescribed and needed, painkillers should be used with caution. Where their abuse has reached the dependency stage, treatment in a detox rehab center is often the safest and sometimes the only route to sobriety.

As with abuse or addiction to any dangerous drug, seek the advice of a qualified treatment center as soon as the problem comes to light, in other words, as soon as possible.

Sexual Health Problems Among Middle-Aged Women

,
Sexual Health Problems Among Middle-Aged Women
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Do you know women?

Sexual Health Problems Among Middle-Aged Women

Before you venture an answer which could put you in hot waters, get a lesson from Frank Sinatra about women. He said:

"I'm supposed to have a Ph/D on the subject of women. But the truth is I've flunked more often than not. I'm very fond of women; I admire them. But, like all men, I don't understand them."

Women are difficult creatures to understand. They can be nothing and everything at the same time; compassionate and fierce, tough and tender, beautiful and ugly. I guess God made them that way to make life interesting; to keep men second guessing them.

Not that they are really that impossible to know or understand. It's just that men look at the world from their own eyes. Seldom, if ever, is the woman's side given much weight in the affair of a man's life - except in his extra marital affairs.

A good example is the Viagra. When it hit the market, it created a frenzy among men. It was like the Holy Grail for those who have been wallowing in self-doubt or frenzy from the most common sexual problem among men - erectile dysfunction.

But was there a when a similar drug for women was introduced into the market? Not that women are free from sexual health issues. In fact, due to the different anatomy, women have more of them than men. The world, men's world, just didn't care.

Anyway, for those who are so indifferent or ignorant about their wives or partners, here are the most common sexual health problems they face. Being equipped with such knowledge, I hope that you will be more circumspect when your blue pill didn't seem to have a reciprocal effect from them.

Inhibited sexual desire:
This is plain lack of sexual desire or interest in sex which could be attributed to hormonal changes, especially during their menopausal period, medical conditions like cancer, depression, pregnancy, stress, fatigue, boredom with regular sexual routines and lifestyle factors like career and the care of children.

Arousal problems:
This is manifested by the lack or insufficiency of vaginal lubrication during sexual activity, thought to be due to anxiety or inadequate stimulation or blood flow problems to the vagina and clitoris.

Orgasm problems (anorgasmia):
This is plain lack of sexual climax usually caused by sexual inhibition, inexperience, lack of sexual knowledge and psychological factors like guilt, anxiety or trauma over past sexual experience or abuse. Other factors could be medication side-effects and chronic diseases.

Painful intercourse:
This could be due to endometriosis (a gynecological disorder among 5 - 10% of women in their reproductive years), ovarian cyst, vaginitis (any infection or inflammation of the vagina), poor lubrication, scar tissues from surgery, or sexually transmitted diseases. Vaginismus, is a painful condition that happens due to the involuntary spasm of the muscles surrounding the vaginal entrance. This happens among women who have a psychological fear of the pain of penetration, sex phobia and traumatic experience from painful sex.

It is impossible to tell how many soured relationships and broken marriages have resulted from these sexual problems, especially among those in the middle-age range.

Lawyers call it "irreconcilable psychological differences." You may call it any way you like. It doesn't change the fact that these are very real and if your wife or partner is affected by any or some of these, you are in real big trouble.

If she means that much to you, consult your doctor first before running to your lawyer. I am sure it is less expensive in the long run - money wise or otherwise.

I am sure, too, that he will prescribe something for her as well, to make your relationship, not just your orgasm, more lasting, meaningful and satisfying.

What Wrinkles?

,
What Wrinkles?
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

The promise of a more youthful look can be very tempting. Botox is regarded by some as the ultimate fountain of youth. BOTOX® Cosmetic was released in 2002 by the FDA for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows. In the U.S., Botox injections have become the most popular and least expensive cosmetic procedure to regain a more youthful appearance. In this article, you'll find out what Botox is, and how and why it's used.

What Wrinkles?

History

The cosmetic benefits of Botox were found quite accidentally. In 1987, ophthalmologists, Drs. Jean and Alastair Carruthers, were treating patients with Botox for an eye muscle disorder that causes involuntary blinking. The doctors noted that Botox also smoothed the lines between the patients' eyebrows - lines that tend to make one look tired, angry or displeased. In 1992, they published the first manuscript on the use of Botox for treating frown lines and opened a new era in the field of minimally invasive cosmetic surgery.

Anatomy of a Wrinkle

There are two types of wrinkles, 'dynamic' and 'static'. When a person is young, they don't have wrinkles because the skin does a great job of stretching and staying firm. There's not a magic age when everyone suddenly gets wrinkles.

Dynamic wrinkles can develop from years of facial movements that result from squinting or smiling like the little wrinkles around the eyes called "crow's feet."

Static wrinkles are formed by sagging skin. As skin loses its elasticity with age or spending too much time in the sun, it does not rebound from the constant forces of stress placed upon it. Skin gets thinner and loses collagen. As this plump appearance begins to disappear, the skin starts to sag, and wrinkles form.

The facelift has been the gold standard for treating static wrinkles. However, treating dynamic wrinkles was always difficult until the advent of Botox.

How It Works

Botox is very safe to administer. It has been used for the past twenty years to treat involuntary muscle spasms and more recently, migraine headaches and excessive sweating. Botox diminishes wrinkles by blocking the release of the chemical substance that causes muscle contraction. It also blocks the same chemical signal responsible for embarrassing excessive sweat.

No long-term adverse effects have been described with the cosmetic use of Botox. In skillful hands, side effects are minimal and results are highly predictable. The procedure may be repeated as often as desired and can be used in combination with other treatments for a more youthful appearance.

Botox is injected relatively painlessly with a micro-needle directly into or around facial muscles that your individual needs require. Improvement in wrinkles can be seen within days and can last up to four months. Benefits can last even longer with repeated use. If you are pregnant, taking certain medications or have a neuromuscular disease, you are not eligible to receive BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments.

Treatment of the Upper Face

Doctors use Botox most often on the upper face. Dynamic wrinkles in this area are caused by repeated movement in the face. Wrinkles appear when the muscles contract, creasing the overlying skin like an accordion. This leads to a "persistent frown" and a more aged appearance.

The most common areas that are treated are frown lines, the horizontal bands of wrinkles across the forehead and crow's feet. Other areas of the upper face can also be treated. These include bunny lines' across the bridge of the nose and 'under eye' creases. Botox can also be used to elevate the mid and lateral eyebrow for eyebrow shaping.

Treatment of the Lower Face

The lower face is subject to both dynamic as well as static forces and therefore can be more challenging to treat. Botox can be used as a primary treatment or in conjunction with dermal fillers to rejuvenate the lower face. Injections into the upper and lower lip treat the radial lines around the mouth, also known as 'lipstick lines' or 'sunbeam wrinkles'. Botox can correct dimpling of the chin and 'marionette lines' by softening irregular folds on the chin and on either side of the mouth.

The Procedure

The entire procedure takes about ten minutes. Treatments consist of a few tiny injections in the group of muscles at the desired treatment area. Anesthesia isn't necessary but some of our patients choose to numb the site with a cold pack. Discomfort is minimal and brief, so patients may resume normal activities immediately.

New patients require about 25 units of Botox for frown lines, 10-15 units for forehead lines and 10-15 units per side for crow's feet. Men require higher doses because they have larger and stronger facial muscles.

Botox has revolutionized the world of cosmetic dermatology. It is used routinely as an adjunct to surgery, soft tissue fillers, laser resurfacing and pulsed light therapy for skin rejuvenation. The list of cosmetic uses continues to grow.

Eye Twitching and Your Emotions

,
Eye Twitching and Your Emotions
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Eye twitching is actually very common. Virtually everyone gets affected by it at least once in his or her life. It is caused by the involuntary movement of the muscles in the eyelids. That's why it's also referred to as eyelid spasm. Generally it is not harmful, but it can be very annoying, even embarrassing.

Eye Twitching and Your Emotions

The problem is caused by a lot of things. There may be some irritation in the eyes. If you lack sleep, if you have too much coffee, or if you're under a lot of stress, your eyes may also twitch. It may also happen if you have been staring in the computer or television for too long. The eye twitches too if you're suffering from epilepsy or a neurological disorder.

There's also a direct correlation between the eyelid spasms and your emotions.

What is the relationship?

How do you know that you're anxious, depressed, or under a high level of stress? It's not just because you think about them but also because you experience the signs and symptoms. For example, you can say that you're in a state of depression since you're irritable, moody, and always sad.

Eye twitching is often associated with anxiety. If you're about to speak in front of a large crowd, the eye twitch. If you're facing your greatest source of fear, the eyelids may start to move uncontrollably too.

Thus, in cases when the movements are not caused by an illness, lack of sleep, overconsumption of coffee, or other factors, then they could have been caused by what you're feeling at the moment.

What can you do?

You need to resolve all your negative emotions if you want to get rid of your eye twitching. There are two best ways on how you can do that.

First you look for a psychotherapist. You may have to go through a series of therapies that aim to change your bad habit, which is eye twitching, as well as to get rid of all the negative emotions that you're feeling. For instance, if the cause is anxiety over public speaking, the therapist may provide you with scenarios where you'll have to speak in front of an audience. He or she can coach you on how to face your fears and keep yourself calm when you're speaking in public. This technique is often called exposure therapy.

Second, you can use a variety of affirmations or subliminal messages. These are usually tools used by therapists for cognitive behavior therapy, wherein you're taught on how to transform negative thoughts into positive ones.

However, since you can already download these subliminal messages in the Internet, you can already practice the therapy all on your own.

If you're feeling your anxiety or stress building up and your eyes start to twitch, just relax by breathing slowly and deeply, then listening to the affirmations. Some of the messages you can listen to include the following:

I am brave and strong.
I am confident on what I can do.
I can play with my strengths.

Why Do I Pee My Pants?

,
Why Do I Pee My Pants?
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

It is called urinary incontinence, defined as the involuntary loss of urine or being incontinent of urine, however I call it wetting my pants. To me it is the most embarrassing of things. I lose urine when I cough, when I laugh, when I throw up. It's a horrible thing to deal with for me. Some women experience it in a different way in that they feel the need to go really strongly and before they can get to the bathroom, they simply go or some women piddle urine in small amounts all the time. However the problem affects you, the key is that it does indeed affect you.

Why Do I Pee My Pants?

Urinary incontinence affects many women, and can keep you from living life to the fullest as the fear of accidentally wetting your pants keeps you from many activities that you would normally do. If say you have the fear of peeing while having sex, then most likely you won't be having sex. If you are afraid to go hiking as there are no bathrooms about, you may just stop hiking. It's a downward spiral that can debilitate your life.

There are many reasons why people will have urinary incontinence, for women the reasons are many and varied so they will be affected twice as much as men. Some reasons a woman may be incontinent of urine are: women's urinary structure is set up in such a way that it is easy to get the problem, pregnancy, disease, illness and menopause account for most of the increase in chances of getting urinary incontinence. General problems of brain injuries, strokes, aging and birth defects affect both men and women.

Why does incontinence occur?

There are two small things that can go awry and cause incontinence of urine in people and they are the nerves and muscles that are there to help us control our urine stop doing their job. Urine is the waste product from the kidneys. It is mostly water and is stored in the bladder and released through the tube called the urethra to be expelled and flushed away.

Your body was formed in such a way that the muscles and nerves work together to release the urine at the proper time. The muscles in the walls of your bladder tighten and contract forcing the urine into the urethra, while this is happening the muscles in the urethra are given command to release and relax, letting the urine flow to the outside of the body.

If the muscles or nerves are not doing their job then you will have urinary incontinence. Your muscles may not be strong enough to hold back the urine and you will get leakage. Another problem is that some bladders may spasm and push urine to the urethra with not enough time for the muscles in the urethra to halt the flow. If you are overweight the pressure from the weight alone can make the muscles unable to hold in the urine, so weight loss can help stop this problem.

Many things happen in a woman's life that can add to the incidence of urinary incontinence; childbirth, weight gain, injury, heavy lifting frequently in life, and aging can all cause the muscle structure that holds the bladder up to weaken. Thus if the ligaments holding your bladder up falter then the bladder will shift and drop moving to the vagina. Unfortunately this move can cause the urethra to not shut as quickly or tightly as it should and urine leaks out.

There are seven types of urinary incontinence:

  1. Stress Incontinence- When you cough, sneeze, lift weights or do any type of exercise you can pee in your pants.
  2. Urge Incontinence - You get the urge but don't get to the bathroom in time or you don't realize the urge and you pee, this can include; urinating while asleep, stick hand in the water and make someone else pee while asleep, or turn on the water to help you pee kind of urge.
  3. Overactive bladder Incontinence- The nerves are irritated and signal your body to urinate quick and with frequency and you just don't get to the bathroom in time.
  4. Functional Incontinence - This happens with people that are unable to get to the bathroom because their thinking is unclear, or their physical ability is unable to get them there. Diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and physical limitations such as wheel chairs or broken bones are the culprits in functional incontinence.
  5. Overflow Incontinence - Your bladder is too full and gets rid of small amounts of urine frequently
  6. Mixed Incontinence - This is normally a combination of urge and stress incontinence
  7. Transient Incontinence - This is the piddling of urine only when you have a new problem such as taking new medicine, dieting, having an illness with a cough and urinary tract infections.

Now you know why woman get urinary incontinence, in our next article we will discuss the big problem of what to do about it!

Vaginismus - Ways to Tell If Your Vagina is Big and Loose Or Small and Tight

,
Vaginismus - Ways to Tell If Your Vagina is Big and Loose Or Small and Tight
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

Does size really matter, well this would depend on what we refer too. If we talk of a young child in a fight, then yes, because no toddler is able for the teen, or if you're hungry, then a small size food portion will not fill your belly. What on earth has this got to do with vaginas you may well ask; "satisfaction" that's what. Both instances are "unsatisfying" situations for the toddler and the tummy rumbler due to size restricting them from achieving, so this can apply to the size of the vagina also? If a person can get satisfaction from being well fed - or from beating their opponent, then why would not a person want satisfaction from their love making. Does the size of the vagina matter; yes it does if it interferes with, or stops you pleasuring in sex. If you or your partner gets no enjoyment while having sex because of looseness, then of course it matters. If you're sure the problem is in your department and not about your partner having a small willy, then you need to look for a way to tighten your vagina.

Vaginismus - Ways to Tell If Your Vagina is Big and Loose Or Small and Tight

Is there a way of telling whether the vagina is either big or small, and of a natural size? Vaginal size is not a topical subject, so chances of finding out anything from friends and family through girlie gossip, is zero. The vaginal wall is elasticity so exact size can never really be ascertained. If the vagina is relaxed the vaginal walls collapse into each other. The diameter is less than one inch and the length will be around 3 to 4 inches. Vagina size alters when ready for intercourse. At this time the diameter of the vagina is not the same throughout the vaginal tunnel.

The narrowest part of the vagina is the opening which widens as it goes in deeper. Normally the front part of vagina has a size of one and a half inches. The deeper into the vagina you go the bigger the diameter. The back end is usually a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. The front vagina wall has the length of 2 inches and the back end is 3 totaling approximately 6 inches.

Some pregnant women after giving birth find there vagina may have stretched through intense expansion. Most of these women turn to Kegel exercises to bring back vaginal tightness. Issues in relation to a loose vagina and vulva size are common, so no need to be embarrassed. Go along and speak with your GP if you`re worried over this. If you have never experienced giving birth, then it's highly unlikely that your vagina or vulva is too big. If you have been put off having sex because you have heard it stretches the vagina and makes it big, then you have heard wrong. What a load of codswollop, yes the vagina can stretch to accept the penis, but soon returns to normal size. Childbirth is a regular cause for vaginal looseness because it can affect dimensions, meaning, damaged muscles and other supporting tissues of the vaginal walls. Don't be put off having children thinking this is a natural happening for women having baby's, because it`s not, just ask the millions of moms the whole world over. There are things you can do to help prevent widening of the vagina by doing postnatal exercises that physiotherapists teach.

If the vaginal 'barrel' gives a feeling of largeness it can lead to the following effects:

- Unsatisfactory sexual intercourse.

- Likelihood of air getting into the vagina - known as 'fanny farting'.

- Lax muscles and ligaments can lead to a prolapsed womb

If you want to tighten a loose vagina start by doing pelvic floor muscle exercises. Practice includes you tense the muscles at the front of the lower part of your body - as if preventing yourself from weeing, hold this contraction for 10 seconds then relax and repeat and keep up for 5 minutes. If possible do this 4 times a day. You can speak to a gynecologist to discuss the possibility of a 'repair' operation. This draws the weakened pelvic tissues together and firms everything up resulting in a tight vagina.

Some women on a huge scale tend "not" to worry over size as much as they do of appearance. These same women believe they have an abnormal vagina because their vulva is either too large or the labia too long, or that bits of it protrude unevenly. If you are one of these women it does not mean you have an abnormal vagina, what it means is, is you have one slightly different from others. Getting back to vagina size, we have women who think their vagina too small. Statistically this is most unlikely. Symptoms that show smallness: is

- Sexual intercourse pain

- Not able to have sex

- Discomfort inserting a tampon

Many women who feel vaginal tightness find it hard to accept that their vagina is normal-size after seeking medical advice. Vaginismus is a condition and the primary reason why women get mixed up for the smallness. It causes the vaginal muscles to contract when intent on making genital contact. An internal examination is normal procedure carried out to clarify that this is the problem. Unfortunately women sufferers can do nothing to prevent the condition from happening because symptoms are entirely involuntary. Vaginismus can have a woman experience burning, pain, penetration problems, or complete inability to have intercourse.

The tightness is actually caused by involuntary contractions of the pelvic floor muscles surrounding the vagina. The tightness can be so restrictive that the opening to the vagina shuts altogether making penetration near to impossible for the man. As like with most conditions there can be several specific types, and this applies to vaginismus also. If a woman has always experienced pain while having intercourse due to this muscle spasm it is called "primary vaginismus." Recognized suffering from this type is not able to wear tampons. Another type is the "secondary vaginismus" more known more for developing later in life. Women can have this after years of uncomplicated sexual intercourse. It is normally hurried along by a medical condition, traumatic event, childbirth, or menopause.

The condition is curable and not a problem to be ashamed of. Your doctor is the person with all the answers if you need to know more. It is not a concern to deeply worry over, as treatment is pretty much straight forward. Vaginismus treatment does not require drugs, surgery, or any other complex persistent methods, so no need to hold back on seeking treatment and suffering any longer.

Symptoms can include:

- Unintentional uncontrolled spasms of the muscles in the vagina
- Dread of pain
- Fear of penetration

Increasing Striking and Punching Power Using Dropping Energy

Increasing Striking and Punching Power Using Dropping Energy
Involuntary Muscle Spasms :

How would you like to generate more power in your strikes when you're in close with your opponent? You can, by developing the little known skill of Dropping Energy. Dropping Energy is perfect for fighting nose-to-nose, where the most mayhem occurs and where there's no room to pull back and chamber a strike. It also delivers more energy in less time at any angle, and causes far more internal damage to the enemy without disrupting your relaxation, sensitivity, or balance; instead, it augments them.

Increasing Striking and Punching Power Using Dropping Energy

Over the years I've probably gotten more letters on this single aspect of Guided Chaos (Ki Chuan Do) than anything else. So what I'm going to do here is reveal a very basic method for developing your Drop Hitting.

The One Inch Punch vs. The No Inch Punch When people are first introduced to the concept of Drop Hitting it usually conjures up images of Bruce Lee's famous "One Inch Punch," however, drop hitting is completely different. Unless you understand how the phenomenon works you'll either perceive it to be some sort of magician's trick in which the student and instructor are in on it, or, if you are so inclined, believe it's some sort of mystical "force" or "energy" developed through years of meditation. In both cases you would be wrong. In fact, drop hitting is a very learnable skill that virtually anyone can employ to great effect. Drop-hitting is trained on a moving opponent since generally speaking, people usually don't stand still waiting for you to throw a punch at them.

"In a boxing match you can win by points, in a real fight you have to knock people out"-- Jack Dempsey

Probably no one knew this better than the legendary Jack Dempsey who was a master pugilist and a master at employing the Drop Punch or what became known as "The Dempsey Drop." The Drop Punch or Dempsey Drop is an extremely sudden penetration, which is very focused and localized as opposed to the One Inch Punch, which is more of a pushing-like motion in order to move people backwards. The problem with pushing people backwards (as anyone with real fighting experience can tell you) is that it generally makes them mad, allows them to come back and does not by any means end the fight. Remember that when people attack you on the street they mean business; rarely do they just walk up to you without at least trying to use some sort of subterfuge to get the drop on you.

Another difference between the Drop Punch and the One Inch Punch is that the Drop Punch can be employed at any range with any weapon including having your hand right against a person's body ( a "no-inch punch"), so as long as the person you are striking is within your sphere of influence it can be used from literally any position.

Developing the Drop Punch Let's be honest, the Drop Punch is one of, if not the "coolest" technique we teach and until you've felt it for yourself you just would not believe how devastating a strike it is. I know that there are still people who will, even after reading this, remain skeptical. Those who have felt what it feels like to be on the receiving end of the Drop Punch can speak first hand to the power of the strike. About the only way to describe it is if you have ever played a contact sport where you got blindsided and the hit literally "rocks" your whole body, that's the way it feels.

When hit with a body shot you feel for a second that you are going to go unconscious. You become nauseous and your organs feel like jelly as a wave of kinetic force penetrates your body.

Understand that such demonstrations of dropping power, while devastating, are not designed to cause permanent damage. Anything more than that could cause serious injury or death. This is why we do not Drop Strike when working with each other to the head or to the neck and other vital areas, nor do we drop with full power for all of the reasons stated above.

In Tai Chi and other internal arts this technique is called "Cold Power." All Cold Power is, is the ability to suddenly bring all of your body into the strike at the right moment with compete relaxation and all of the physics behind it. You've seen this a million times yet probably never knew what it was. The explosiveness of dropping is the same effect as a football player blasting someone into the next world with a devastating hit, a hockey player checking someone into the boards or hitting a slap shot. In sports they are allowed to over commit on their shots or as in the case of football give up their entire body, whereas in a fight this is unacceptable since it makes you vulnerable to possible counterstrikes. When striking people the Drop Punch feels like hitting a baseball on the sweet spot of the bat, or hitting a golf ball on the right spot of the club. In other words, when all of the physics and body unity come together upon contact the strike feels effortless yet the effect is extremely potent. In essence this is the purest application of Tai Chi "Fa Jing" and chi or as some books on the internal arts describe it "...the circulating point of finesse in the body."

How Do You Drop? Simply put, Dropping Energy refers to a spasmodic lowering of the entire body weight into a current or new root. Whatever your body weight is, it becomes a formidable weapon when you get it moving all at once in accordance with gravity. The sensation of dropping is similar to having your legs kicked out from under you, stumbling off a curb, or falling asleep at the wheel of your car and then jerking awake. It resembles the effect when you sneeze: your diaphragm contracts violently and your whole body spasms and drops. The energy is explosive but involuntary. You want to be able to control it at will, directing it to any weapon. When fueled by your fear and permitted to flow by relaxation, the damage dished out by dropping can be substantial.

Dropping consists of two parts that happen simultaneously:

1. Stand with your knees slightly bent, then try to bend them more so quickly that for a split second your whole body becomes weightless, so that a slip of paper could actually be inserted between your feet and the ground. Most beginners make the mistake of actually jumping up first, which entirely misses the point. if you are a skier or play hockey, the sensation is similar to down-unweighting (the fastest way to change edges in a turn).

2. Halt the drop with a snap to start the shock wave of energy. You don't want to drop more than a couple of inches at most. Think of it as snapping a wet dish towel or cracking a whip; you're essentially trying to "catch the bounce" your body makes as it's stopped. Your momentum bounces off the floor through your feet and back up your body to be channeled into whatever weapon you're using, provided all your joints are perfectly aligned for maximum power generation from your foot all the way through your hand. Think of it this way: a whip will generate zero power if a) it's grabbed in the middle just as it's snapped or b) the timing is wrong gathering the entire length of the whip for a wave-like crack or c) the whip itself is dipped in water and rigidly frozen (this is akin to fighting in an external style using pure grunting muscular exertion). when you drop properly, all the loose flesh on your body shakes violently (you know what we mean...)

You can drop into one or both legs or from leg to leg, it doesn't matter.

Advantages of Dropping as a Source of Power

* It requires no continuous muscle tension or great strength

* It requires no windup or chamber

* It's perfect for fighting nose-to-nose, where the most mayhem occurs and where there's no room to pull back and chamber a strike

* It delivers more energy in less time

* You can deliver it at any angle, including upward

* It causes far more internal damage to the enemy

* It doesn't disrupt your relaxation, sensitivity, or balance; instead, it augments them

Seven Step Drop Program Here's a series of progressive exercises that you can practice on your own. Please note: In order to develop the ability to drop on your strikes the most important thing you must develop is your balance. Without balance you can do nothing, for you need to be able to "catch" and control your body as you strike, since the power emanates from your root through your center of gravity. As you drop you must land with your foot flat with your center of gravity rooted over the foot you drop on.

STEP ONE - stand with your hands out in front of your arms, shoulder height and slightly bent with your wrists relaxed. This position looks exactly like the first move in the Tai Chi form. As you drop and catch yourself, perform a palm heel strike, focusing on timing your strike with your drop. Your arms should feel the contraction of the muscles with the hands "snapping" into the palm heel strike. Your hands should strike outward in front of you with no more than three to four inches of movement.

Start off slow, focusing on developing the timing and then gradually pick up the speed.

Resist the temptation to "launch" with your legs by jumping up in the air first. This is a common mistake and will not add one iota of power to your strikes.

Upon dropping, ensure that all motion in your body ceases and hold your position for two full seconds. You should feel yourself rooting to the ground with each drop, knees bent, ensuring that you do not hop forward or lean in any one direction dropping straight down. This will ensure that as you strike you are able to do so with maximum contraction of the muscles and balance. Make sure as you recover for your next drop that, as you return to the original position, you are totally "relaxed" between each drop.

Repeat this over and over for two minutes or until the point of fatigue.

STEP TWO - repeating all of the steps in step one, upon dropping, ensure that all motion in your body ceases and hold your position for one full second. In doing so you will now begin to cut down on the amount of time it takes between your strikes while ensuring that as you strike you are able to do so with maximum contraction and balance.

Repeat this over and over for one minute or until the point of fatigue.

STEP THREE - upon dropping, ensure that all motion in your body ceases and hold your position for one half a second cutting down even more on the amount of time it takes between your strikes to gather yourself, again focusing on striking with maximum contraction and balance.

STEP FOUR - stand with your hands out in front of your arms, shoulder height and slightly bent with your wrists relaxed. As you drop and catch yourself, perform a side chop or "shuto" strike focusing on timing your strike with your drop. Your arms should feel the contraction of the muscles with the hands "snapping" into the strike. Again your hands should strike outward in front of you with no more that three to four inches of movement.

Ensure that the hands are already in the proper position to make the strike work as if you were striking for real, focusing on hitting with the side of the hand, not the fingers. Now, you want to drop and strike as fast as you can, making sure you remain balanced as you strike and relaxed in between strikes.

Again do not lean forward or hop as you strike. Make sure that you are striking as you catch yourself when dropping.

STEP FIVE - repeat step four only now, drop on one leg, alternating the feet, and begin to develop the dropping on one leg. Do not lean forward or to the side and do not hop as you strike. Make sure that you are striking as you catch yourself when dropping, ensuring that your center of gravity is directly over the rooted leg. Once you gain proficiency at this, begin dropping employing various strikes, hitting within your sphere of influence with every possible weapon you can imagine.

STEP SIX - repeat step five, striking and moving in every possible direction, striking with every possible weapon within your sphere of influence. Ensure that as you step you maintain your body unity. Then begin the Guided Chaos exercise Polishing the Sphere (see Attackproof: the Ultimate Guide to Personal Protection), intermixing it with drop hitting.

STEP SEVEN - drop until you can't drop anymore and repeat several times a week until it is infused into every fiber of your being. You should mostly feel this in your legs, later you will want to do this against a heavy bag, then on the wobble board, then on the board against the heavy bag, on one leg etc...

These are simply beginner drills. There are many more advanced drills to develop Dropping Energy and apply it to dynamic combat under chaotic conditions.
